What is Mounjaro and how does it work?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable medication that targets two gut hormones — GLP-1 and GIP — to reduce appetite, slow digestion, and support weight loss. It's more effective than GLP-1-only medications like Ozempic or Wegovy because of this dual mechanism.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS?
Currently, Mounjaro is not routinely available on the NHS for weight loss. Access through NHS specialist services is very limited and involves long waiting lists. Private treatment at Fylde Private Medical gives you access without delay, starting from £191 per month.
How long does it take to see results with Mounjaro?
Most patients notice appetite changes within the first 2-4 weeks. Meaningful weight loss typically begins around weeks 4-8. Maximum results are usually seen at 6-12 months of consistent treatment.
Do I need a prescription for Mounjaro?
Yes. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medication. At Fylde Private Medical, a GMC-registered GP will assess your eligibility in person and issue a prescription if appropriate. We do not prescribe via questionnaire alone.
What's the difference between Mounjaro and Ozempic?
Both are injectable weight loss medications, but they use different active ingredients. Ozempic contains semaglutide (a GLP-1 agonist only). Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which targets both GLP-1 and GIP. Clinical trials show Mounjaro produces significantly greater weight loss on average.
What are the most common side effects of Mounjaro?
The most common side effects are nausea, constipation, reduced appetite, and mild fatigue. These are most pronounced in the first 4 weeks and typically improve as your body adjusts. Serious side effects are rare.
Can I drink alcohol on Mounjaro?
Alcohol is not strictly prohibited, but it can worsen nausea and other gastrointestinal side effects, and it undermines weight loss. Your GP will advise moderation, particularly in the early weeks of treatment.
How do I administer Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is injected subcutaneously (under the skin) into your stomach, thigh, or upper arm once a week using a pre-filled injection pen. At Fylde Private Medical, your nurse will demonstrate exactly how to do this at your first appointment — it's simpler than it sounds.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose and it's within 4 days of when it was due, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 4 days have passed, skip that dose and resume your normal schedule the following week. Do not take two doses at once. Contact our team if you're unsure.
Can I get Mounjaro in St Annes or the Fylde area?
Yes. Fylde Private Medical at 26 St Annes Road West, Lytham St Annes, FY8 1RF is one of the few GP-led Mounjaro providers on the Fylde Coast. You can collect your medication from our practice or have it posted. Call us on 01253 207568 to book.
How is Fylde Private Medical different from online Mounjaro providers?
