What is Wegovy?
Wegovy contains semaglutide, a medication that mimics a natural hormone (GLP-1) that helps regulate hunger and food intake. Originally developed to manage type 2 diabetes, semaglutide is now approved in the UK for weight management in people who are overweight or living with obesity.
It works by reducing appetite, slowing digestion, and supporting better control over eating habits — without relying on extreme diets or willpower alone.

Wegovy doses
0.25mg
This is your starting dose, taken for the first 4 weeks. It allows your body to gradually adjust and helps reduce potential side effects.
0.5mg
After the first month, most patients increase to 0.5 mg per week. This is the next step in building up medication gradually.
1mg
If the previous dose is well tolerated, your GP or prescriber may increase your dose to 1 mg, usually from week 9 onward.
1.7mg
This higher dose is prescribed as part of the continued dose escalation plan. It helps prepare your body for the full maximum dose.
2.4mg
This is the maintenance dose for most patients and typically reached by week 17. It has been shown to deliver its maximum clinical benefit in clinical trials.
