What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection that belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists. It mimics natural hormones in your body that help regulate appetite, blood sugar, and digestion.
Approved initially for type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro is also being widely prescribed off-label for weight loss, due to its impressive clinical results.
How effective is Mounjaro?

20.2%
Average loss in body weight*

18.3cm
Average loss in waist circumference*
Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) has demonstrated remarkable weight loss results in clinical studies, even when compared to other leading medications.
In a 72-week clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, adults with obesity (but without diabetes) lost an average of up to 20.2% of their body weight using Mounjaro.
That’s over 50 pounds for many participants. This head-to-head trial compared Mounjaro to semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic® and Wegovy®) and found:
-
Mounjaro (tirzepatide): ~20.2% average weight loss
-
Semaglutide (Wegovy): ~13.7% average weight loss
-
More patients on Mounjaro reached major milestones like 15%, 20%, and even 25% total body weight loss
Both medications are highly effective, and both work best when paired with healthy lifestyle habits. The difference? Mounjaro activates two hormone receptors (GLP-1 and GIP), which may explain its added impact on appetite regulation and fat metabolism.*
How does it work?
Mounjaro targets two key hormones: GLP-1 and GIP. These help:
Reduce appetite and slow down stomach emptying
Regulate blood sugar levels after eating
Support fat metabolism and energy balance
THE RESULTS
You feel full longer, have fewer cravings, and can better manage portions which are all key components of sustainable weight loss.
Unlike crash diets or stimulants, Mounjaro works with your body’s natural biology to support real, lasting change.
Mounjaro doses
2.5mg
This is your starting dose and we recommend staying on this for the first 4 weeks.
5mg
After your initial 4-week introduction dose, most patients begin with a 5 mg maintenance dose.
7.5 - 10mg
If 5mg is well tolerated, your GP may gradually increase to 7.5 mg, and then to 10 mg, to help sustain and accelerate weight loss.
12.5 - 15mg
For those who need additional support and are responding well. The maximum doses of 12.5mg and then 15 mg may be prescribed.
